Tunisia Gets €145 Million Boost for New Bizerte Bridge Project

Tunisia has secured €145 million in loans from the European Investment Bank (EIB) and the African Development Bank (AfDB) to fund a major bridge construction project in Bizerte. This critical infrastructure project aims to improve traffic flow and enhance regional economic activity.

Key Details:

  • Construction Timeline: The bridge itself is expected to be completed within 38 months, with an additional 27 months for the construction of connecting roads and interchanges.
  • Project Scope: The project involves building a 2.07 km long bridge with a height of 56 meters. This will significantly reduce traffic congestion in Bizerte’s city center. It will also improve access to the port of Bizerte, fostering economic growth in the region.
  • Contractor: The construction contract has been awarded to the Sichuan Road and Bridge Group for an estimated cost of TND 610 million (approximately 79% of the total investment).
  • Project Phases: The construction will be completed in three phases:
    • Phase 1: Building a 4.5 km southbound link through a motorway.
    • Phase 2: Construction of the main bridge.
    • Phase 3: Building a northbound link and a 2.5 km motorway.

This project represents a significant investment in Tunisia’s infrastructure and is expected to have a positive impact on the country’s economic development.
